Inter-University Multidisciplinary Platform
Robotein is a technological platform built on competences and infrastructures available in the academic setting of two labs that offer a complete structural biology portfolio: the Center for Protein Engineering (CIP) at the Université de Liège (ULg, Belgium) and the Structural Biology and Bioinformatics Centre (SBBC) at the Université Libre de Bruxelles (ULB, Belgium).
High-throughput protein analysis
Besides our high-throughput facility, we provide a wide range of complementary technologies, including analytical or pilot scale recombinant protein production (Protein Factory), various spectroscopic methods (i.e. UV-Vis absorbance, fluorescence, circular dichroism and state-of-the-art infrared spectroscopy), biomolecular interaction technologies (Bio-Layer Interferometry and ITC) and enzyme kinetics (both steady- and transient-state kinetics, the later with the help of modern stopped- and quenched-flow apparatus when fast mixing is required), and also X-ray crystallography for high resolution structure determination. Finally, a wide range of mass spectrometric methodologies are available in collaboration with the Mass Spectrometry Laboratory (ULg).
Open to the Belgian and European Scientific Community
Together with Structural Biology Brussels Research Centre (SBRC) at the Vrije Universiteit Brussel (VUB, Belgium), CIP and SBBC are part of the Belgium INSTRUCT Affiliated Centre (BIACe), which aims to provide a modern and complete structural biology platform and knowledge centre on a national scale and opens up a number of unique technologies to the international INSTRUCT user community.
The Microlab STAR Hamilton automated liquid handling workstation was funded by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) (2007-2013) and further developments (i.e. purchase of ancillary equipment and protocol development) is currently funded by the Federal Public Service of Wallonia (DGO6) within the frame of the EQUIP 2013 call (ROBOTEINE project).
